Scheherazade — Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro (2024)
Originally choreographed for Tartu Ballet in Estonia (1st semester 2022), this version of Scheherazade was re-staged at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro in 2024.
The restaging required a reconfiguration of the original design, shifting from projection-based imagery toward aerial hand-painted framing elements, architectural constructions, and backdrops. This transformation redefined the visual environment, creating depth and offering rich possibilities for lighting that resonated with the architectural scale of the Brazilian proscenium stage.
The translation of the work into this new spatial framework demanded careful negotiation. The sensuous fluidity and exoticism of the original choreography were reframed through scenographic choices attuned to the hall’s grandeur, acoustic resonance, and spatial dynamics. Costumes and scenic elements were conceived to preserve the aesthetic identity of the original production while expanding its presence in a space that called for gesture, materiality, and atmosphere to operate in heightened dialogue with movement.
